Africa is home to some of the most conversational leaders on Twitter. The tweets of Rwanda’s President @PaulKagame, Prime Minister @AMurekezi and Foreign Minister @LMushikiwabo are almost exclusively @replies to their followers. Eighty-three percent of African leaders are on Twitter but they are currently not that well connected, either among themselves or with other world leaders. The Presidency of Mali @PresidenceMali has the most mutual Twitter connections ahead of the Foreign Ministry of Rwanda @RwandaMFA and Ethiopia @mfaethiopia. Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame and are Sub-Sharan Africa’s most followed leaders with more than 1.4 million followers each.
