Michel Kafando, Burkina Faso’s former ambassador of to the United Nations was chosen as transitional president after the ouster of Blaise Compaoré in November 2014. His Twitter account @MichelKafando was mentioned by military leader Lieutenant Colonel Yacouba Isaac Zida @isaacyzida but the account is inactive without a profile picture. Foreign Minister Djibril Bassolé has a Twitter account @DBassol which is also inactive. The country’s presidential administration however is active on the social networking platform.

Burkina-Faso's interim prime minister, Lieutenant Colonel Yacouba Isaac Zida set up his Twitter account on 2 November 2014, a day after ousting former president Blaise Compaoré (@PF_Compaore). In his seven tweets sent so far @isaacyzida promised that the military was “NOT here to usurp power NOR to sit in place and run the country”, promising “A unity govt will be installed to oversee a political transition.”

Presidency of Burkina Faso Présidence du Faso

The presidency of Burkina-Faso started its Twitter journey debunking false news about former president Blaise Compaore: “President Compaore never demolished any anti-apartheid monument in Burkina-Faso”, they tweeted. The presidency in Ouagadougou chronicles government and bilateral meetings with frequent use of group pictures from meetings. The tweets are all in French and its most retweeted tweet was the message to the nation by former President Compaoré on 30 October 2014 in which he announced his intention to amend the constitution to extend his 27-year term and which caused the Burkinabé uprising, retweeted 67 times.
