The @ADO__Solutions account of Ivory Coast President Alassane Dramane Ouattara was created in the beginning of October 2010 a month before presidential elections on 31 October. At first, the tweets concentrated on the election campaign and the post-election stalemate when incumbent Laurent Gbagbo refused to recognize Outtara’s election win. During that time and the ensuing civil war, he frequently retweeted messages of support from foreign leaders as well as international organizations. After the arrest of Gbagbo in April 2011 and since becoming president, the tweets mostly cover governmental initiatives, meetings with other foreign leaders as well as reforms he wants to initiate. All of his tweets are in French and are generally headlines with links to French media reports.

The presidential administration has set up an institutional account @Presidenceci in September 2011 to cover the daily activities of the President. The tweets are very official addressing the president only as “His Excellency Mister Ouattara” or “SEM Ouattara”. The account tweets the presidential agenda and live tweets quotes from his speeches at major events. In late June 2012 the account reported live from the 41st meeting of ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States counting 15 West African countries, currently chaired by Ivory Coast.
