The official account of the Government for South Sudan broadcasts the activities of President Kiir, consistently referred to as “H.E. Kiir” and chronicles the new country’s nation building including the launch of their new currency and postage stamps. The account was set up on 8 July 2011, just two days before gaining independence: “Dear Friends, on this great day the Government of Southern Sudan @RepSouthSudan is delighted to welcome you to our official Twitter Account”. The @UN, @Israel, the @_AfricanUnion and the @WorldBank are among the most mentioned accounts by @RepSouthSudan. The account follows 18 peers but so far only Foreign Secretary @williamjhague has reciprocated.
