An institutional governmental Twitter account was set up in April 2009, just days before mass demonstrations against president Saakashvili. The account distributes the weekly newsletter Georgia Update, a newsletter produced by the government on current affairs since 2008. The account has been dormant since 14 December 2009 when it tweeted its last news item: “Switzerland and Georgia strengthen ties.”
