The Prime Minister of Singapore and his government have been on Twitter since 2009 and the accounts have proven useful communication tools.

Tweets from Singapore leaders

President of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore is one of the few world leaders who tweet personally, signing his tweets with his initials LHL. @LeeHsienLoong tweets on average once a day but he rarely @replies to other users. He often shares pictures of the cities he visits and even takes the occasional selfie with his admirers and even when he was hospitalized. Lee Hsien Loong is not the best connected world leader, mutually following only Malaysia’s @NajibRazak and the @PMOIndia account. When his late father Lee Kwan Yew was hospitalized due to worsening health conditions, @LeeHsienLoong tweeted on a regular basis to update the public on his father’s medical status. He also shared past memories such as family pictures and documents signed by his father during this period. The majority of his tweets are in English but he occasionally tweets in Malay and used Chinese to give Chinese New Year address and Hindi on the occasion of the Deepavali festival. His most popular tweet was an announcement from the PM office informing the public on the passing of Lee Kwan Yew.
