Lee Hsien Loong does not tweet on a daily basis and his feed mostly reproduces his Facebook status but Mr Lee personalizes his tweets by signing the tweets written by himself with LHL. He does not tweet about government policies or sensitive issues, instead tweeting about events he attends and political leaders he meets. He tweets mainly in English but has sent one tweet in Chinese on the occasion of Vesak Day Buddha’s anniversary. Lee Hsien Loong shares mainly light hearted news on his Twitter feed like congratulating his followers on Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day. His first tweet is also his most popular, re-tweeted 296 times followed by a second tweet in which he expresses his gratitude for the warm welcome on Twitter: “Thank u all! V touched by ur responses & encouragement. Good night! – LHL”

The Government of Singapore’s Twitter account was created in July 2009 and provides daily updates on policy issues, with links mostly to government statements uploaded at the Singapore government’s website. It is of general interest, covering issues from climate change and SMEs’ support to family planning and human trafficking. Most used hashtags include #sgbudget, #japanquake, #sghealthbudget, #singapore. The government of Singapore is not connected to any other world leader. It does however follow Prime Minister Lee. It’s most popular tweet is the publication of the calendar of public holidays in 2012.
