“Thank you people of El Salvador!” sent after winning the presidential elections has become President Salvador Sánchez Cerén’s most popular tweet after winning the elections in March 2014. The former vice president of El Salvador opened his personal Twitter account on May 2010. The account has been very active during the campaign and now averages of nine tweets per day. “Governing with people” (#gobernandoconlagente) and #ElSalvador are the most used hashtags on his personal account. The president’s team also posts a number of pictures from his activities and international meetings. @SanchezCeren is well connected to his peers, mutually following 16 other mainly Latin American leaders.

Presidency of El Salvador Casa Presidencial

On 9 November 2009, the presidency of El Salvador under former President Mauricio Funes opened an official Twitter account to serve as channel for updates and news. However, it only sent its first tweet a year later: “President Mauricio Funes will attend the inauguration of the First Indigenous Congress today at the Port of Liberty”. The account is very active with an average of 47 tweets per day almost half of which are retweets often of the president’s personal account. Its most used hashtag is “Governing with people” (#gobernandoconlagente) and “ElSalvador Says” (#ElSalvadorDice).
