Argentina

The Argentinian president is one of the most followed leaders. While not very conversational with her followers she does however connect with her Latin American peers on Twitter.

When Cristina Fernández de Kirchner started to tweet on 26 August 2010 she immediately began a Twitter conversation with her peers, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Sebastián Piñera of Chile. She tweeted about the trapped miners: “@Sebastianpinera glad that they are well and in good spirits. We are at your disposal, as always. A hug”. When the miners were rescued on 13 October 2010 she tweeted her joy: “Chi, Chi, Chi, le, le, le. Los mineros de Chile y de Dios” (The miners of Chile, and Miners of God). The Argentinean president is one of the most connected world leaders and when her husband Néstor Kirchner died of heart failure on 27 October 2010 many of her Twitter friends tweeted messages of condolences. Her most popular tweet is the announcement of her becoming a grandmother: “Maximus, our son will be a dad I have a grandson! CFK grandmother! God takes away ... God gives you.”
